The Deer Hollow "Winter" Recreation area is an excellent destination for year-round recreation. when the snow melts the winter cross-country skiing and snowshoeing trails are great for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. There are also numerous off-trail routes through the open sections of the forest that lead to some beautiful places, including some of the most impressive views on Cedar Mountain.
There are many sites available for dispersed camping, ranging from locations just off FR 30055 to remote spots requiring 4WD. It is a quiet area, free from the ATV noise typical of other parts of the Dixie National Forest. Visitors can also enjoy spring wildflowers, vibrant autumn colors, and sightings of deer, elk, and other wildlife.
Please note that the Deer Hollow area, and the entire region south of SR 14 from the summit to the Navajo Lake overlook, is closed to ORVs, even on legal forest roads. And within Deer Hollow, there are only three legal roads, which are open exclusively to full-size, street-legal vehicles:
- FR 30055: A standard dirt road generally navigable by most vehicles. (The Hollow Trail)
- FR 31663: A rough 4WD loop. (Center Draw, Outback, and West Draw)
- FR 31642: Part of the Marathon trail, where 4WD is recommended. (Fork Trail)
